Lomography Film Development Service

If you are thinking of trying Lomography's film development service (UK) but are unsure on whether too then read this, i will tell you my experience and what i think. I will be talking about their develop and scan service for black and white but it will show the quality of their other services too.

First lets start off with how much it costs. For 35mm black and white it is £10 plus £2 P&P. For colour negative it's £8 and £10 again for slide, they also offer a cross-processing service for colour negative and slide for no extra cost. All of this is for 24xp and 36xp per roll.

So what do you get for that? You will get scans, which you can get via downloading from the website they send to your email but also they will mail them to you on a cd. With the cd you will get your negatives/slides.

One of the main thing in consideration is what is the quality like of the service. The resolution of the scans you will get back will be 1818x1228, the size of the files will be around 1mb per photo (Some are higher, some lower) and they'll in .jpg format. As for dust on the scans, from the two rolls i sent there i did get some dust on some of the scans, i would say about 90% of them were fine but still could be 100%. The negatives came fine, those and the cd were both inside a lomography card wallet ( The ones you usually get with picture and development) which was sent in a Strong card photo/letter mailer.Turn around time was about 5 days by the time they received the film.

In conclusion they offer a decent service, better than that of a supermarket or drug store but you do pay extra. Perhaps they are a little costly, especially, if one considers developing and scanning their own film but if that seems like the best option for you and you want something better than drug store quality and you don't mind getting the odd scan with dust on (You might not get dust on yours but it can be fixed in photoshop) then i think you might not be displeased but as always i would suggest looking around first as you may just find a better service.

Some of the scan from the two rolls i sent in (Ilford HP5+ and Fuji Neopan 400)
