Film camera's for beginners: Nikon FM2N

Nikon FM2N
The fm2n released in 1989 was and still is a remarkably good camera, not quite as popular as some of the other cameras i have talked about but it in this series, but nonetheless, is an amazing camera. It was and still is used by armatures and pros alike and rightly so with a spec sheet and build quality good enough for most's main or backup camera, although that being said remember good specs and a great camera do not make a good photographer.

Specs:
Modes: The fm2n is fully manual only.

Shutter: The fm2n has a shutter speed range of 1s - 1/4000 which is remarkably good

Self timer: It has a self timer with a 10 second delay.

Iso/asa range: The fm2n has an iso/asa range of 12 - 6400

Hot shoe(flash mount): The fm2n uses a standard hot shoe.

Flash modes: The fm2n doesn't not has TTL flash mode only manual.

Flash sync: The flash sync for the fm2n (the fastest shutter speed that will sync with the flash) Is a remarkable 1/250s which is very good especially when compared to the other cameras in this line up.

Lens mount: The fm2n uses the nikon F mount with a good array of lenses

Light meter: The fm2n uses a three LED light meter, it has a plus and a minus sign when the LED light is on at the bottom near the minus sign it's telling you that you are underexposing, when it's in the middle it is correct and when at the top near the plus sign it's telling you you're overexposing. I think a needle meter is better but this certainly is adequate

Power: It takes two lr44 cell batteries.

Motor drive: The fm2n is compatible with a motor drive which will allow you to get up to 5 frames per second.

Price: On ebay you can find them from around £100 - 200 but again they can be sourced cheaper else where if one looks around

My thoughts:
Although you might see the specs and think this is clearly the best camera of the line up you have to consider the price, the FM2n can be twice if not more than one of the others (which is the biggest factor) but that being said i think it is well worth the money and if you can afford it i would highly recommend getting it. It's great specs, amazing quality, not too big or heavy body for not really too much money i think make it a great camera and one not only for beginners as i said before this was a often found as a backup in the bag of a pro. But remember a great camera doesn't make a great photographer so don't feel as though you need the best or disheartened if you can't get the best.
